The Declaration is an alternative news source for Philadelphia. We seek to highlight city politics, art, culture and activism.
Why Philadelphia? Our reasons are myriad, but the fact that Philadelphia’s predominant publications are all essentially owned by the same corporate interest certainly has something to do with The Declaration’s existence.
We act in accordance with the once-accepted maxim that news organizations have a responsibility to participate in political debate, and to shape public policy while adhering to ethical guidelines stated in The Tao of Journalism: Transparency, Accountability and Openness.
Our site was founded by Dustin Slaughter and Kenneth Lipp, both of whom subsequently moved on to new ventures. The site is currently run by Managing Editor Austin Nolen.
