Just one day after The Daily News published a chilling and comprehensive look at domestic abuse by Philadelphia Police officers, an officer was arrested and charged with domestic abuse. The story pointed out that 164 Philly cops have been the subject of domestic assault allegations during the last three years, but only 11 have faced criminal charges, and just three have been successfully prosecuted.
Joseph Griffin, who has been with the PPD for 8 years and was currently assigned to the 8th district, was arrested today and charged with slew of charges including: endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment, intimidation of a victim, and recklessly endangering another person.
The arrest was the result of an Internal Affairs investigation as Philly Mag noted:
The arrest is the result of an ongoing investigation by Philadelphia PD internal affairs and the District Attorney’s office. Griffin has been suspended for 30 days with intent to dismiss by Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey.
