Foreclosure filings in Pennsylvania increased again last year (a hefty twenty-eight percent, which the Philly.com business section tries to gloss over) and they are expected to continue to rise.
Mayor Nutter can sell Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW). A city panel will allow the city to spend money on a “team of lawyers, financial advisers, and communications consultants” and privatize PGW, despite the objections of unionized workers and public advocates.
Mayor Nutter’s “final offer” to city workers has been rejected by the union, resulting in the Mayor’s declaration that talks are deadlocked. Union representative Pete Matthews tells CBS Philly of Mayor Nutter’s stance during negotiations: “The mayor wants to dictate terms. He does not want to negotiate. Its his way or no way. That’s the problem with the mayor.”
