A school pupil sits a GCSE English exam

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has released its list of failing schools, reports Philadelphia Tribune. Of the 406 schools statewide, 177 of them are managed by the Philadelphia School District – and oddly, charter schools were exempt from the list.

One woman seeks closure in the death of her brother, reports Philadelphia Gay News. 23 year old Alex Martinez was gunned down protecting his nephew from a robbery one year ago.
