A small group of demonstrators gathered on the the west side of City Hall in the rain this afternoon to protest U.S. military escalations in Iraq and Syria.
It was the first political rally held since former Dilworth Plaza reopened under private control as Dilworth Park.
Despite statements issued by the Center City District to The Declaration and other local news outlets, which indicated that no civic events – political or otherwise – would be allowed without permits issued by the city’s Managing Director, the protest was allowed to progress unimpeded.
A police department Civil Affairs captain, Stephen Glenn, told The Declaration‘s Joshua Albert shortly before the rally that “protesters will be allowed to express [their] First Amendment right to demonstration [sic].”
The demonstration lasted for less than two hours.
Wish I could’ve been there today (had to work my lovely min wage job). Glad some people are standing up for the poor.
