Local religious leaders led a protest numbering almost 1,000 through Center City yesterday, filling the sweltering air with spirited chants and resolve, while denouncing the police killings of Philando Castile in Minnesota and Alton Sterling in Louisiana earlier this week. Families and people from all walks of life attended the peaceful demonstration as some onlookers snapped photos and chanted along with the marchers. Attendees ended the march inside Arch Street Methodist Church, where speakers delivered sermons and more calls to action.

A series of peaceful protests are planned for this weekend too.
