We’ve been following closely the case of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia pediatrician found murdered in her Center City basement. NBC Philly reports that her alleged killer, Jason Smith of Levittown (who police say has confessed to the crime) “just snapped.”

Philadelphia authorities are using hate crime statutes for the first time to prosecute crimes against persons with disabilities, in a case where they allege a woman and her accomplices manipulated, coerced, and kept people bound “like animals” to extract their Social Security payments. Mayor Michael Nutter is upping the reward offered for information leading the arrest and conviction of the persons involved in the abduction of a 5 year old girl from her elementary school two weeks ago, according to The Reporter.
