“We Will Fucking Kill You”: Online Ire from Some Eagles Fans Over Tonight’s Planned ‘Die-In’

By Dustin Slaughter and Kenneth Lipp

As news of a planned, peaceful ‘die-in’ tonight at Lincoln Financial Field to protest decisions by Ferguson and Staten Island grand juries not to prosecute police officers involved in the murders of unarmed African American males circulated through local and national media today, some (seemingly all Caucasion) Eagles fans expressed (First Amendment-protected) anger over demonstrators expressing…First Amendment-protected activity.

Vitriol on Twitter and in website comment sections ranged from annoyance to outright calls for physical violence against protesters, including running them over with vehicles.

After @BarstoolSports tweeted a link to an article it published this afternoon regarding the protest, followers weighed in – and it was downright ugly:

One suburban Philadelphia resident tweeted:

Another Twitter user, who has since locked their account, posted:

Comments posted to an NBC 10 article on this evening’s demonstration were equally ugly:

Another commenter, curiously, thought that a Sunday night protest outside of a football stadium would disrupt commuters heading to work:

For its part, the Philadelphia Police Department says there will be a policy of “zero tolerance” for violence this evening, adding that they intend to protect First Amendment rights – and the physical safety – of all individuals outside Lincoln Financial Field tonight, according to Inspector Joe Sullivan:

Its one thing to protest and make life inconvenient for people to draw attention. It’s another thing to risk your life, police lives, and endanger drivers by laying down on a fucking highway or major intersection. Time, place, manner apply with Free Speech and this protest violates the time, the place, and manner. The protestors are idiots for this demonstration.
